On Wednesday 7th October, we went to a Tag Rugby Competition at Blackburn Rugby Club. We have only had a few weeks practice but after Health and Fitness week being focused on rugby last year we had lots of skills ready to use.
We played 3 games in the first round, our first was against Lammack and after a dodgy start we managed a draw which was great come back from our team!
Our second game was against St Barnabas which we started by winning 3-1, unfortunately we ended up drawing this game as well. Our final game was against St Thomas which we won!!
The children played really well and improved throughout every game. Unluckily for us we didn't manage to qualify to the next round which was a big disappoint as the children had played so well.
Good news is most of the team were only Year 5 so next year they need to watch out for us :)
On Monday 5th October we took part in the first of three cross country matches at Qegs Playing Fields.
This year saw the most amount of children turning up for our cross country trials at lunchtime so I had a full team of 12 children taking part.
All the children ran really well as it is a looong way around that field!
Results are as follows:
Layla - 22nd
Nicolde - 79th
Keva - 81st
Ella - 112th
Brandon - 64th
Alan - 69th
Filip - 77th
John - 78th
Aaron - 89th
Well Done to all these children and Good Luck for the next two rounds in February and March.
On Wednesday 14th October 8 children went to the round one of the Boccia League at St Bedes High School. The children have been practicing since September with Miss Shakespeare every Thursday night. The children were split into two teams Shad Dab and Shadsworth Sharks.
The children had a great day and played all their games really well. Good luck to them at the next round and lets hope we win some more games :)
On Thursday 24th November, we participated in the Year 5/6 Dodgeball festival competition, taking an A and B team. Both teams involved 6 players each and were split into separate leagues, which had 8 teams in each league. To qualify into the knockout stage, the teams who finish in the top 4 positions would move into the quarter finals.
Team B just missed out on qualification by finishing 5th in the league, winning 2 of their 7 games.
Team A managed to qualify to the quarter finals by finishing 3rd in their league, winning 4 of their 7 games. Unfortunately, Team A lost in the quarter finals, but it was a great effort in getting that far in the competition.
WELL DONE BOTH TEAMS!!
Football & Netball
We were invited to take part in a football and netball league tournament which runs once a month at Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre (BRIC). The competition was organised into a league format event, involving 10 teams in a league, playing each other once. Both our teams played very well throughout the season and it was a great way for the children to play and enjoy the sport they love.
The football team finished 5th in the league table.
The netball team finished 7th in the league table.
On Tuesday 2nd February, we went to the Year 3/4 Sports Hall Athletics Competition at Blackburn Central High School. The Children trained very hard in the after school club prior to the competition and they were confident of achieving a medal at the games.
The team consisted of 9 girls and 9 boys looking to take part in their selected event. The competition consisted of participating in two event type games which were track and field events. The track events where the obstacle relay, 1+1 relay, 2+2 relay, 1+1 hurdle relay, over/under relay and the 4+1 relay. The field events where: the chest push, standing long jump, vertical jump, soft javelin and the speed bounce.
The children performed fantastically well, coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd in many of the events, and the longer the competition went on, the children could sense that there was a chance that they could be the champions of the competition.
After everyone had finished their events it was time for the results to be counted and announced in front of all of the 9 schools which took part. The results were being announced and the top two places where still up for grabs……and the winner of the year 3/4 Sport Hall Athletics competition is……..SHADSWORTH JUNIOR SCHOOL!!!!!!!!
The children were brilliant throughout the tournament and were deservingly winners of the event.
On Tuesday 1st March, we participated in the Year 6 Girls Football Competition at St Bedes High School. Prior to the tournament, the girls trained and learnt to play as a team and had all the skills equipped to do very well in the event.
The team consisted of 8 girls, playing 6 aside in a league format structure. 20 schools were divided into four leagues, 5 in each. In our group we had, Audley Junior’s, Longshaw Junior’s, St Peters Feniscowles and Wensley Fold. To be able to qualify to the knockout stages, the team needed to finish top of the group.
First game, against Audley Juniors, the girls played brilliantly, scoring 6 goals without reply, great result!! Our second game was a tough one against St Peters Feniscowles, which ended in a 0-0 score line. Third game against Wensley Fold was another dominant performance for our girls, winning 2-0. Our last game was against Longshaw, knowing a win would make us qualify out of the group. The girls played really well but the ball just wouldn’t go in the goal. The game finished 0-0 and we came second in the league with St Peters Feniscowles finishing top by one point..
Fantastic effort from the girls who were unbeaten in the competition. Excellent attitude. WELL DONE!!
On Tuesday 7th June, we participated in the Year 3/4 Quadkids Athletics Competition which was held at St Bedes. The QuadKids competition was split into 4 events which were the standing long jump, cricket throw, 60m sprint and 400m run. 5 Girls and 5 boys from our school took part in all the events and our scores were combined to give us an overall score at the end of the competition.
All the children performed really well and gave 100% in every event. With some very good schools taking part (10 schools altogether) we finished in 5th position. Maybe next year we can move forward and into the medal positions.
BPSSA Athletics Junior Competition
On the Monday 20th June, we participated in the BPSSA Athletics Junior Competition which took place at Witton Park Track. This event involved 32 junior schools across the Blackburn & Darwen Borough and we invited 30 children to take part in the games. There were many events in the competition which included, sprint race, sprint relay, long distance run, jumping and throwing.
All the children performed very well in their particular event and we were among the medals in a couple of events.
Winning Gold in her 80m sprint event was Ellie-Mai Drury, who ran superbly well and blew her opponents away finishing first by a distance. WELL DONE!!!!!
Ellie-Mai was among the medals again by helping the Year 5/6 Girls win silver in the 80m sprint relay race. The other girls involved were Abigail Faller, Sophie Wignall and Jorja Corkin. GREAT EFFORT!!!!
Winning Bronze in her Cricket Ball Throw event was Lana Riley, throwing an impressive throw and only losing out on the Gold medal by centimetres, very unlucky but WELL DONE!!
