  • Science

    INTENT

At Shadsworth Junior School a high-quality Science education provides foundations for understanding the world. Through building key knowledge and understanding of concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of curiosity about natural phenomena. The national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:

    •  Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
    • Develop an understanding of the nature, processes, and methods of Science through a variety of different scientific enquiries that help them to answer questions about the world around them.
    • Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of Science, today and for the future.
    • Are encouraged to understand how Science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes

    IMPLEMENTATION

    IMPACT

       We assess science as follows:

Lessons begin with a recap of the previous lesson, topic, and work from the previous year.

    • Observations by staff during lessons
    • Verbal feedback during the lesson on the next steps
    • End of unit quiz based on the National Curriculum key objectives for the unit
    • Recorded and tracked using INSIGHT Tracking
    • In Year 6 we assess using the key objectives
    • The subject leader monitors the data from each class year group and gives feedback on strengths and areas to develop
