English
INTENT
At Shadsworth Junior School we believe that a high-quality English curriculum is vital for all our pupils' future development within education and later in life. Therefore, we have thoughtfully and purposely devised our own English curriculum, in consultation with some highly respected English consultants, so it best suits the needs of our pupils. We have selected books for all units of English which we believe will enthuse and encourage the children to become active learners. All English units of work incorporate Reading, Writing, Grammar and Speaking and Listening activities which we believe will develop each and every child's English abilities.
IMPLEMENTATION

- Children have a love of reading and make good, or better progress in reading from their last point of statutory assessment
- Children use their reading skills as a key tool in helping them to learn, and as a result, know more, remember more, and understand more

- Each child is listened to read as part of a guided group and informal assessments are made
- Our reading intervention lead uses a range of assessments to guide their work on a 1:1 and small group basis.
- Children use Rising Stars Assessmetns three times a year as a formal assessment alongside informal teacher assessments
- Insight Tracking is used to record, monitor, and analyse progress and attain mentof every child.
- Past SAT papers are used for Year 6 pupils to practice and prepare for formal SAT tests each May
