The Forest Room is managed by Mrs Parkinson (SENCo). Mrs Parkinson oversees the work of the support assistants throughout school and works closely with class teachers to support pupils who are working below age related expectation. Following assessments, in consultation with parents and teachers, pupils who are not making suitable progress may be placed on our SEND profile. The pupil will then have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), with SMART targets which are reviewed three times a year. If it is felt necessary, Mrs Parkinson will involve outside agencies such as an Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist or make a referral to SEND Support Service. If your child is involved with a paediatrician, then Mrs Parkinson will be providing them with regular updates and information.
Miss Green and Mrs Haslam (SSAs) work with a small group of 9 Year 3, 4 and 5 pupils in the Forest Room for: reading, English and maths each morning. During the afternoons the pupils access speech and language activities, mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, motor skills and nurture. The work that they do is monitored by Mrs Parkinson.
Mr King also works in the Forest Room with EAL pupils each morning.
