The Forest Room is managed by Mrs Parkinson (SENCo). Mrs Parkinson oversees the work of the support assistants throughout school and works closely with class teachers to support pupils who are working below age related expectation. Following assessments, in consultation with parents and teachers, pupils who are not making suitable progress may be placed on our SEND profile. The pupil will then have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), with SMART targets which are reviewed three times a year. If it is felt necessary, Mrs Parkinson will involve outside agencies such as an Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist or make a referral to SEND Support Service. If your child is involved with a paediatrician, then Mrs Parkinson will be providing them with regular updates and information.
During the morning, Miss Green and Mrs Haslam (SSAs) work with a small group of 10 Year 4 and 5 pupils in the Forest Room for: reading, English and maths each morning. The work that they do is monitored by Mrs Parkinson.
Mr King also works in the Forest Room with intervention groups focusing on reading, writing and maths for pupils in Year 5 and 6.
Every afternoon Mrs Haslam works with Year 5 and 6 pupils to carry out additional interventions including: vocabulary and narrative, verbal reasoning, memory and social skills work.
Mrs Bolton (SSA) works with 2 groups of pupils on friendship by using 'Apple Friends' materials.
