PE and Healthy Living
Intent
At Shadsworth Junior School, Physical Education (PE) is an important part of our inclusive curriculum that engages all pupils in a supportive and challenging environment.
We intend to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical education and in developing life skills to enjoy their learning; to be resilient and consistently strive to give their best efforts at all times and achieve their potential and personal best.
We teach children skills to keep them safe such as being able to swim. We also teach children how to cooperate and work in partnership with others as part of an effective team, understanding fairness of play, sportsmanship, and respect. These are values we hope to embed in future life.
Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at Shadsworth, not only through the sporting skills taught but also through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes.
IMPLEMENTATION
IMPACT
Physical Education is assessed as follows:
- Observations and questioning by staff during lessons
- Verbal feedback during the lesson on the next steps
- The subject leader monitors the data from each class year group and gives feedback on strengths and areas to develop
- At the end of each Physical Education unit teachers make a summary judgment about the work each pupil has completed about the success criteria.
