Year 4 The Romans
We began this topic with developing our drawing knowledge. We used our sketchbooks to refine and develop our skills, using a range of pencils to create different tonal values in our work.
We then discussed what the B and H mean when referencing different pencils before creating a tonal scale from light to dark. We also spent time exploring different forms of mark making and how these marks can be used to add shading to our drawings.
We then began to look at Roman Emperors:
Why aren't there any photographs of the Roman Emperors?
What is a 'bust'? How are they created?
Do you think they are an accurate representation of the person? Why or why not?
How can we made a 2D drawing appear to be 3D?
We looked at using tone to enhance our 2D drawing of a Roman Emperor's statue, adding shading in the right areas to create the illusion of depth and enhance the quality of our drawings.
Look at how incredible our finished pieces look!
