Childrens Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

The theme of this year's Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself.

Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.

Each day of the week, Miss Norris will be sharing an activity to get you to express yourself.

We would LOVE to see your pictures! Please join in and send a picture of your work to andrea.norris@shadsworthjunior.blackburn.sch.uk !

It’s important to remember that being able to express yourself is not about being the best at something or putting on a performance for others. It is about finding a way to show who you are, and how you see the world, that can help you feel good about yourself.

VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY

To start off Mental Health Week, each class is watching Place2Be's virtual assembly!

Hosted by Blue Peter’s Lindsey Russell, and CBBC Presenter and Place2Be Champion Rhys Stephenson, the assembly is a great way to help children to explore the creative ways they can share their thoughts and feelings.
The assembly features pupils from Featherstone Primary School, and special guests:
- Sharna Jackson, award-winning author
- Nikki Lilly, Youtuber and campaigner
- Matthew Lewis, actor
- Plus a special message from Doctor Who star, Jodie Whittaker.

Today's activity is:

What makes you feel happy? Draw anything at all that expresses your happiness.

Here is Malachy from Year 6's wonderful drawing of what makes him happy!

TUESDAY

Create a 'collage of calm' by cutting out pictures from magazines that are calming to you. Stick them onto a piece of paper and hang it in your room.

*tip* if you don’t have any magazines, try drawing the things that make you feel calm.

Taylor from Year 6 has had a fantastic go at her Collage of Calm! Take a look!

WEDNESDAY

Happy hump day! Our mid-week activity for this week's theme of EXPRESS YOURSELF is:

Draw a heart on a piece of paper and fill it with colour to represent how you are feeling right now.

THURSDAY

Thursday's activity for this week's theme of EXPRESS YOURSELF is:

If you could choose an animal to turn into for one day, which animal would you choose and why? Draw it!

We would love to see your children's creations! Share them as a comment below or email them to Miss Norris.

Have a look at Malachy-Ian's go at todays challenge! How fabulous!
