Our Vision

Headteacher's Welcome

A warm welcome to Shadsworth Junior School. Our website aims to give you an insight into our wonderful school, our aims, our curriculum and the support we offer each and every child.

Shadsworth Junior School is a friendly, happy, hard working school with a strong sense of family and belonging.

We pride ourselves in being a National Flagship School for Inclusion.

Our overarching aim, is for every child to be the very best they can be, to have a  range of different experiences in order to find something they can excel at and enjoy.

Children begin in Year 3 and stay until the end of Year 6 when they move on to High School.

Children are all taught in single age classes with a maximum of 30 children per class. Every class has a full time support assistant alongside the class teacher. We also have two small Nurture Rooms which are available to support some of our pupils who need extra social and emotional support during their time with us. We also have two SEND provisions called The Forest Room for Y3 and Y4 and The Hive for Y5 and Y6.

We are committed to providing the highest standard of teaching and learning experiences so children can reach their full potential. We place a strong focus on the core subjects of reading, writing and maths but alongside this, we pride ourselves in providing a rich and varied curriculum full of opportunity and learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

Every child and adult is treated with respect and this is actively modelled throughout the whole school. We aim to build confident, resilient children with a love of life and learning.

  • We work hard together.
  • We support each other in time of need.
  • We challenge each other to be the very best that we can be.

We also understand that some pupils need more support to help them achieve and we offer two specialist nurture rooms which runs interventions for a range of pupils with Special Educational Needs. This resource is overseen by our SENCo. The Forest Room and The Hive were recognised when we achieved National Flagship Status for Inclusion.

The pastoral and wellbeing support we offer our pupils was recognised as "OUTSTANDING" in our Ofsted Inspection in 2019. This has developed even further through our supporting positive mental health strategy. We now have a team of pastoral support which includes:  a Mental Health Champion, a Pupil Wellbeing Co-ordinator, a Family Support Worker and two fully trained ELSA's (emotional literacy support assistants). We also employ a Play Therapist and offer a student  Play Therapy training placement.

We run a breakfast club each morning and an Enrichment Night after school every Tuesday from 3pm - 4pm.  We also employ specialist teachers in their fields to support our Music, Spanish, Sport, Art and Forest School.

We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers, it is our firm belief that this gives our pupils the very best chance in life. We value parents and carers and offer opportunities for them to be involved in school life as well as offering a range of family support if required during their time here.

Our whole staff are talented, enthusiastic and fully committed to the pupils at Shadsworth Junior School - they go the extra mile each day!
